El fallecido papa Francisco tuvo la oportunidad de abordar por última vez el papamóvil el pasado domingo, horas antes de su deceso la mañana del lunes.
Ello, motivado por su asistente sanitario, Massimiliano Strappetti, a quien el pontífice agradeció por animarlo a transitar en el vehículo en la plaza de San Pedro para saludar a los fieles en lo que a la postre sería su despedida.
El obispo de Roma aceptó la sugerencia del asistente después de haber impartido la bendición Urbi et Orbi.
«Gracias por traerme de nuevo a la Plaza», le dijo Francisco a Strappetti, refieren medios vaticanos.
Luego de retornar a la Casa Santa Marta después de su última aparición pública, el papa descansó durante la tarde y tuvo una cena tranquila. Según el periodista de Vatican News, Salvatore Cernuzio, vino el amanecer la sensación de estar mal, el ictus, el coma y la muerte al filo de las 7 de la mañana con 35 minutos
Se dice que a las 5.30 de la mañana aparecieron los primeros síntomas, siendo de inmediato atendido por quienes lo cuidaban. Más de una hora después, tras saludar a Strappetti quien estaba acostado en la cama de su apartamento en el segundo piso de Casa Santa Marta, el papa entró en coma.
De acuerdo con Vatican news, Francisco no sufrió y todo sucedió rápido, citando a alguien que estuvo a su lado en esos últimos momentos».
Sobre Strappetti, se sabe tambie que este enfermero le salvó la vida a Francisco sugiriéndole una cirugía de colon en 2021. Salvatore estuvo a su lado los 38 días de hospitalización en el policlínico Gemelli y las 24 horas del día durante su convalecencia en Casa Santa Marta
Tras aparecer en el balcón de la logia central de la basílica de San Pedro para la bendición ‘Urbi et Obi’ ante las 50 mil congregadas en la plaza, el papa quiso dar una sorpresa con un recorrido en el papamóvil.
“’¿Crees que puedo hacerlo?’, le preguntó a Strappetti, quien lo tranquilizó», revela el medio vaticano, que añade que, «cansado pero feliz, el papa agradeció a su asistente sanitario personal: ‘Gracias por traerme de nuevo a la plaza’”.
