"Dulce muerte", estreno especial en el Festival de Cine en Morelia

Dulce Muerte, documental de la directora mexicana Analeine Cal y Mayor, se suma a la selección oficial como función especial del Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia (FICM) en su edición número 21, un encuentro de cine que se llevará a cabo del 20 al 29 de octubre.
Bajo la producción de Carlos Sosa y producción ejecutiva de Viggo Mortensen, este largometraje es un ejercicio que pone sobre la mesa los argumentos y refutaciones, científicas y morales, de la legalidad del proceso de muerte asistida.
¿De quién es la decisión de morir? He ahí el dilema.
En 79 minutos, se sigue al Dr.Philip Nitschke uno de los principales defensores de la eutanasia, a partir de que pierde su licencia médica y decide convertirse en comediante presentando un espectáculo de Stand Up, donde enseña sobre la eutanasia en paises en los que aún se considera ilegal.
Al mismo tiempo, seguimos a Kathy, que después de participar en una de las conferencias Nitschke viaja a Tijuana para conseguir en el mercado negro los medios para poder terminar con su vida en caso de que herede la enfermedad crónica de su madre.
Producción colaborativa entre Cinestereo, Viento del Norte Cine, Chamaca Films, Cacerola Films y Perceval Pictures, que resalta las reflexiones en torno a la muerte pacífica e indolora desde la tercera edad, con el apoyo de una paciente de espíritu intrépido y un médico de fuerte convicción.
Una planeación y ejecución que ha flotado por años en la agenda social, que día con día aboga por su legitimidad judicial.
Debate tan controversial como nostálgico que rebasa los límites geográficos al contar con locaciones en ciudades como Tijuana en Baja California, México; Eastbourne, Sussex Oriental, Londres y Gran Londres pertenecientes a Reino Unido; Edimburgo en Escocia; Venecia en Italia y Ámsterdam y Holanda Septentrional en Holanda.
Cal y Mayor, conocida por El niño que huele a pez (2013), La voz de un sueño (2016), Donde los pájaros van a morir (2022) y The Book of Love (2022), regresa al cine con este proyecto en mancuerna con el actor, director, productor, autor y poeta norteamericano Viggo Mortensen cuya amplia trayectoria incluye películas como Una historia violenta (2005), Alatriste (2006), Promesas peligrosas (2007), El último camino (2009), Un método peligroso (2011), Capitán Fantástico (2016) o Green Book (2018).
Un espacio afable y cordial para deliberar de manera individual y colectiva sobre uno de los temas universalmente más complejos: la muerte por elección.
Sweet Death, por su título en inglés, tendrá su estreno nacional en el marco del 21° FICM el sábado 21 de octubre en punto de las 19.30hr. en las instalaciones de Cinépolis Centro de Morelia, Michoacán.
